About the Research Group
The Advanced Wireless Technology Group (AWiTec Group) was established by Professor Cheng-Xiang Wang in 2005 at Heriot-Watt University, UK, with the integration of several faculty members from Shandong University. The group was officially re-established as the current AWiTec at Southeast University in July 2018.
The group’s current research primarily focuses on areas including 6G wireless channel measurement and modeling, 6G/B6G ubiquitous intelligent connectivity networks, and electromagnetic information theory. It leads several national-level projects, including the Major Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Key Research and Development Program. The group is equipped with multi-band, multi-scenario channel measurement platforms covering the frequency range from sub-6 GHz to terahertz (THz), as well as technologies such as integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS). The 6G universal channel modeling theory and simulation technology proposed by the group were released as a major achievement of Purple Mountain Laboratories and won the Top 10 Scientific and Technological Advances in Jiangsu Province (Electronic Information Sector) 2022. The AWiTec Group is committed to making China a key contributor and standard-setter for 6G channel technologies.
Currently, the group consists of 5 full-time faculty members from the School of Information Science and Engineering, Southeast University, 4 researchers from Purple Mountain Laboratories, 4 postdoctoral researchers, and 2 engineers. It has 31 PhD candidates and 56 master’s students in attendance, bringing the total team size to over 100 members. Additionally, the group also hosts several recommended undergraduate students (for direct postgraduate admission) and SRTP undergraduate students.
International Workshop on 6G Wireless Channel Measurements and Modeling
Held on May 15–16, 2025, at the Nanjing Shangqinhuai International Cultural Exchange Center, the 2025 International Symposium on 6G Wireless Channel Measurement and Modeling (6GCMM 2025) was jointly organized by Southeast University (SEU), Purple Mountain Laboratories (PML), the Communications Society of the Chinese Institute of Electronics (CIE), and the Internet of Things Committee of the China Institute of Communications (CIC). Co-organizers included Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NUPT), Zhejiang University, Xidian University, and Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), among others. As the third edition of this international symposium, 6GCMM 2025 also served as one of the academic events celebrating the 122nd anniversary of Southeast University and the 72nd anniversary of its School of Information Science and Engineering. The symposium aimed to advance emerging theories, novel methodologies, and standardization efforts for 6G wireless channels, while fostering in-depth discussions on the latest developments in 6G standard channel models. The event was also live-streamed, attracting more than 2,500 participants both online and on-site, with a cumulative viewership exceeding 50,000.
